Physical findings in someone with nasal or sinus congestion may include:

• Facial tenderness
• Runny nose
• Posterior nasal drip:
• Mucus drains from the nose, down the back of the throat
• Fever
• Redness to the lining inside the nose

Tests that may be used to evaluate nasal or sinus congestion include:

• Complete blood count
• Culture of sinus discharge
• Sinus x-rays
• CT scan of the sinuses
• Nasal endoscopy:
• Thin, flexible endoscope is inserted into the nose.
• Allergy testing
