Nasal Itching Overview

Another name for Nasal Itching is Itchy Nose.

What is the significance of an itchy nose?
A person with an itchy nose often has irritation or inflammation of the nasal passages that results in the urge to scratch the nose. A cold, sinus infection, allergic rhinitis, or another allergic reaction can trigger an itchy nose.

What symptoms can accompany an itchy nose?
Symptoms that may occur with an itchy nose include runny nose, sinus congestion, sneezing, and difficulty breathing through the nose. The mucus that drains from the nose may be clear, green, yellow or brown. Other symptoms include nosebleeds, sore throat, fever, ear pain, headache, and facial pain.

How does the doctor treat an itchy nose?
Treatment for an itchy nose depends on the underlying cause. Usually, an itchy nose does not require treatment unless it becomes severe and persistent. Antihistamine medications and corticosteroid nasal sprays may be used to treat severe itchy nose caused by an allergy.
