Myocardial infarction is unusual in men under 35, and in women less than 40 years old.

Risk factors for myocardial infarction include:

• Anxiety
• A previous heart attack
• A family history of heart disease
• Age over 65
• Creased ear lobe
• Depression
• Diabetes
• Females after menopause
• High blood cholesterol
• High blood pressure
• High stress at home or work
• Hypothyroidism
• Male gender
• Systemic lupus erythematosus
• Severe psoriasis:
• Requires daily treatment with corticosteroids
