A person with mouth cancer has a group of abnormal cells in the lining of the mouth that multiply out of control. These cells can form tumors and spread to other parts of the body.

Smoking greatly increases the risk of mouth cancer. The chance for a cure is very good if the cancer is detected before it spreads outside the mouth.
