The evaluation of Meniere's disease begins with a history and physical exam.

Physical findings in someone with Meniere's disease may include:

• Complete hearing loss
• Nystagmus:
• Involuntary movements of both eyes
• Worse with movement of the head
• Vertigo:
• Spinning sensation
• Worse with movement of the head
• Partial hearing loss
• Poor balance

Testing may be necessary to exclude other conditions that cause symptoms similar to Meniere's disease.

Tests that may be used to evaluate Meniere's disease include:

• Auditory evoked potentials
• Audiometry
• CT scanning of the brain
• MRI scan of the brain
• SPECT scan
