Malignant Melanoma Evaluation
The evaluation of malignant melanoma begins with a history and physical exam. Nevi, or moles, on the skin can develop into melanoma.

Physical findings in moles that may indicate malignant melanoma include:
  • Irregular border Images
  • Mixed color Images
  • Irregular shape Images
  • Rapid change in size or shape Images
  • Rapid change in color, such as black Images
  • Size larger than 6 mm (about the size of a pencil eraser) Images
A skin biopsy is required to confirm the diagnosis of malignant melanoma.
