The evaluation of lymphangitis begins with a history and physical exam.

Physical findings in someone with lymphangitis include:

• Skin redness
• Red streaks that spread from a wound or infection:
• Lymphangitis of the arm
• Lymphangitis of the back of the leg
• Lymphangitis of the hand from a finger wound
• Skin swelling
• Skin warmth
• Fever
• Swollen lymph glands

Tests that may be used to evaluate lymphangitis include:

• Blood cultures
• Complete blood count
• Lymph node biopsy:
• Open lymph node biopsy
• Needle biopsy of lymph node
• Bone marrow biopsy
