What is lymphadenitis?
A person with lymphadenitis has inflammation of the lymph nodes, usually caused by a bacterial infection. However, viral infections can also cause lymphadenitis. Lymphadenitis causes the lymph glands to become swollen and tender.

What are the symptoms of lymphadenitis?
Lymph gland swelling and tenderness are the most common symptoms of lymphadenitis. Additional symptoms of lymphadenitis include fever, chills, headache, and red streaks on the skin.

How does the doctor treat lymphadenitis?
Treatment for lymphadenitis may include rest, warm compresses, elevation, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications for pain. Additional treatment for lymphadenitis caused by a bacterial infection may include antibiotics, or surgery to remove infected tissue.
