A person with Lyme disease has an infection caused by the bacteria, Borrelia burgdorferi. The parasite is passed to humans during a bite from a deer tick.

Symptoms include:

• Red, circular rash that looks like a target
• Muscles aches
• Fever

Lyme disease is rare. Early treatment of Lyme disease usually results in complete recovery.
