Lung Cancer Complications

Complications of lung cancer may be due to the disease itself or a side effect of one of the treatments.

Chemotherapy complications:

Usually due to low white blood cell counts or aplastic anemia

Radiation complications:

Confusion:

Can be seen with radiation to the brain

Difficulty swallowing
Fatigue
Hair loss
Headaches:

Can be seen with radiation to the brain

Nausea and vomiting
Other cancers
Rashes and other skin changes:

Discoloration to the skin secondary to radiation burns

Weight loss

Surgery Complications

Chest pain
Pleural effusion:

A fluid collection inside chest cavity

Pneumonia
Pneumothorax:

A collection of air within the chest under positive pressure

Shortness of breath
