Prevention of viral hepatitis includes:

  • Hepatitis A vaccine
  • Hepatitis B vaccine
  • Avoid exposure to blood.
  • Avoid exposure to other body fluids.
  • Avoid having multiple sexual partners.
  • Avoid body piercing.
  • Avoid raw seafood.
  • Avoid sexual contact with someone who has hepatitis.
  • Avoid tattoos.
  • Avoid using another person's personal items, such as razors or toothbrushes.
  • Do not abuse drugs.
  • Do not share needles.
  • Do not share eating utensils with someone who has hepatitis.
  • Drink bottled water while traveling.
  • Practice safe sex:
    • Use condoms.
  • Wash your hands after using the bathroom.
  • Wash your hands before handling food.
