Ligament Sprains Evaluation
The evaluation of a ligament sprain begins with a history and physical examination.

Physical findings in someone with include:
  • Decreased range of motion in a joint
  • Inability to use the joint
  • Joint instability
  • Joint swelling and joint bruising Images
  • Joint tenderness Images
Tests that may be used to evaluate ligament sprains include:
  • Bone x-rays: Images
    • X-rays may be necessary to exclude a fracture or dislocation.
    • Torn ligaments are not visible on an x-ray.
