Risk factors for leukemia include:
  • Abnormal chromosomes
  • Family history of leukemia
  • Exposure to chemicals, such as benzene
  • Exposure to radiation
  • Smoking
  • Any condition that causes a weakening of the immune system such as:
    • Diabetes
    • Organ transplant
    • Chemotherapy: the administration of medicines that kill cancer cells. Images
