A person with a leg fracture has broken one of the bones in the leg.

What are the symptoms of a leg fracture?
Symptoms of a leg fracture include leg bruising, leg swelling (unilateral), leg deformity, leg tenderness, inability to bear weight on the injured leg, and severe leg pain that worsens with movement.

How does the doctor treat a leg fracture?
The treatment for a leg fracture includes rest, elevation, cold compresses, and a leg cast or splint. Other measures include narcotic pain medications, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, and surgery to repair a more serious fracture.
