Home care
for a jaw dislocation may include:
Avoid opening the jaw widely.
Apply cold compresses:
Wrap ice in a moist hand towel. Do not apply ice directly to the skin.
Apply for 20-30 minutes, every 1-2 hours, for the first few days.
Elevate the head of your bed:
To reduce
swelling
Eat a soft diet.
Take prescribed medicine as directed.
Acetaminophen
for pain
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications
for pain:
Ibuprofen
Naproxen
Ketoprofen
