What is thyroiditis?
A person with thyroiditis has inflammation of the thyroid gland. In most cases, thyroiditis causes decreased activity of the thyroid gland, called hypothyroidism. A common cause of thyroiditis is Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

What are the symptoms of thyroiditis?
Symptoms of thyroiditis include brittle hair and nails, cold intolerance, constipation, depression, dry skin, facial swelling, fatigue, insomnia, leg swelling, muscle aches, muscle weakness, palpitations, and weight gain.

How does the doctor treat thyroiditis?
Treatment for thyroiditis may include thyroid hormone supplements and surgery.
