What is infertility?
A person with infertility is unable to conceive after one year of regular intercourse. Infertility affects about 1 percent of couples in the US. About 30 to 40 percent of cases of infertility are due to male factors, and 40 to 50 percent of cases of infertility are due to female factors. With treatment, about 55 percent of cases of infertility result in pregnancy. Images

What are the symptoms of infertility?
There are usually no symptoms associated with infertility.

How does the doctor treat infertility?
The treatment for infertility in women includes assisted reproductive technologies, counseling, and medications to stimulate ovulation in women. The treatment for infertility in men includes testosterone and other medications to increase sperm count. Surgery may be an option for some patients.
