Infected Eye Home Care

Home care for conjunctivitis includes:

  • Discard eye makeup, contact lenses and cleaning solutions.
  • Do not share towels or eye solution with others.
  • Do not use contact lenses or eye makeup until symptoms are gone.
  • Avoid touching your eyes.
  • Wash your hands immediately after touching your face or wiping your eyes.
  • Clean your eyelashes gently with a warm wet compress.
  • Wash out your eyes several times per day.
    • Use saline eyewash.
  • Use eye drops as directed by your doctor.
  • Children may return to school after:
  • Use prescribed eye medications as directed:
    • Don't skip doses of your medication. This makes them less effective.
    • Be aware of the common side effects that may be caused by your medication.
