A person with a hoarse voice has difficulty producing sound when speaking, or has a change in the quality of the voice. The sound may be weak, scratchy or husky.

A hoarse voice is usually caused by irritation or inflammation of the vocal cords. Occasionally, the voice change may be caused by a small growth that forms on the vocal cords. Images
