What is a hip strain?
A person with a hip strain has stretched or torn one of the muscles that move the hip joint.

What are the symptoms of a hip strain?
Symptoms of a hip strain include hip pain that worsens with movement of the hip. Additional symptoms of a hip sprain include bruising over the hip, muscle swelling, muscle tenderness, and difficulty walking.

How does the doctor treat a hip strain?
Treatment for a hip sprain includes rest, leg elevation, cold compresses, crutches, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications for pain, and physical therapy.
