The evaluation of hip bursitis starts with a history and physical exam. ![]()
Physical findings in someone with hip bursitis may include:
- Tenderness over the hip

- Swelling of the soft tissue over the hip
Usually, tests are not required to make the diagnosis of hip bursitis.
Tests that may be used to evaluate hip bursitis include:
- Hip x-rays

- Bone scan

- CT scan of the hip

- MRI of the hip joint
