A person with hip bursitis has inflammation of the bursa that lies over the hip joint. The hip bursa acts as a lubricating pad between tendons and bone near the hip. The bursa prevents destruction of the tendons as they move over bone. The most common cause of hip bursitis is a fall onto the hip. ![]() What are the symptoms of hip bursitis? Symptoms of hip bursitis include hip pain that worsens with movement of the hip joint.
