Hepatitis Prevention
Prevention of hepatitis surrounds exposure to organisms that cause hepatitis.

Prevention of hepatitis includes:
You should receive hepatitis B immunoglobulin if you are exposed to someone who has hepatitis B and you have not been vaccinated against hepatitis B. You should also be tested for hepatitis if you are exposed to someone who has hepatitis B or C.

Additional prevention of hepatitis includes:
  • Avoid exposure to blood.
  • Avoid exposure to body fluids.
  • Avoid having multiple sexual partners.
  • Avoid body piercing.
  • Avoid raw seafood.
  • Avoid sexual contact with someone who has hepatitis.
  • Avoid tattoos.
  • Avoid using another person's personal items, such as razors or toothbrushes.
  • Do not abuse intravenous drugs.
  • Do not drink alcohol when you take acetaminophen.
  • Do not share eating utensils with someone who has hepatitis.
  • Do not share needles.
  • Drink bottled water while traveling.
  • Practice safe sex:
    • Use condoms.
  • Wash your hands after using the bathroom.
  • Wash your hands before handling food.
