A person with heel bursitis has inflammation of the bursa that lies over the heel bone. A bursa is a small sac of fluid that is filled with very slippery fluid. A bursa lies between a tendon and bone. It acts as lubricating pad, reducing the friction between the tendon and the bone. Symptoms of heel bursitis include heel pain, and pain at the end of the Achilles tendon that worsens with walking.
