A person with Hantavirus has a rare viral illness that is transmitted to humans from rodents. Serious Hantavirus infections cause damage to the blood vessels that supply the lungs. This leads to swelling of the lung tissue, which reduces the passage of oxygen from the air, into the bloodstream.
