Grave's Disease Underlying Cause
Grave's disease is caused by a malfunction in the immune system, which normally fights infection. For some reason, the immune system mistakenly stimulates the thyroid gland, causing it to swell and produce high levels of thyroid hormones. The cause for the immune system malfunction is unknown.
