Fungal Infection of the Esophagus Underlying Cause
Candidal esophagitis is caused by an infection by the fungus, Candida albicans. Candidal esophagitis can occur with any condition that weakens the immune system, such as diabetes, an organ transplant, chemotherapy or AIDS.
