What is Fournier gangrene?
A person with Fournier gangrene has an infection of the soft tissue around the genitals or anus. In Fournier gangrene, the infection destroys blood vessels that supply blood to the tissue. The lack of blood supply promotes further infection and tissue death. The illness may become life-threatening if it continues to spread through layers of tissue. Fournier gangrene is usually caused by an existing infection of the skin or organs that are located near the genitals or rectum. The illness is 10 times more common in men, than in women. Images

How does the doctor treat Fournier gangrene?
