What is sole pain?
A person with sole pain has discomfort or pain in the bottom of the foot. Sole pain may be caused by inflammation, infection, arthritis, or foot injury. Plantar fascitis is the most common cause of pain in the sole of the foot.

What are the symptoms of sole pain?
Symptoms that may occur with sole pain include skin redness, skin swelling, foot swelling, foot bruising, foot tenderness, foot stiffness, foot weakness, foot or toe numbness, and difficulty walking.

How does the doctor treat sole pain?
The treatment for sole pain depends on the underlying cause. Treatment for sole pain may include rest, elevation, cold or warm compresses, crutches, antibiotics, foot splint, narcotic pain medications, corticosteroids, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications.
