What is a felon?
A person with a felon has an infection of the fingertip that forms a collection of pus, called an abscess. Felons are caused by bacteria that normally live on the surface of the skin. An injury may allow the bacteria to enter the tissue beneath the skin. The bacteria start to grow and an abscess forms in the fingertip.
