First aid for a febrile seizure: - Lay the child down on his or her left side.
- Keep the airway clear of vomit.
- Do not force anything into the child's mouth.
- Remove the clothing to keep child cool.
- Call 911.
Home care for a febrile seizure includes: - Check the child's temperature every 4 hours:
- Rectal temperatures are the most accurate method.
- Dress the child lightly.
- Do not bundle the child in blankets.
- Encourage the child to drink cool liquids.
- Acetaminophen for pain and fever control
 - Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications for pain and fever control
- Ketogenic diet:
- Work with a dietician and your doctor to plan this special diet
