A person with factor 7 deficiency has a rare, hereditary blood clotting disorder that can result in severe bleeding. Normal blood coagulation requires the complex interaction of about 20 proteins, called clotting factors. Low levels of factor 7 result in prolonged blood clotting.

Symptoms of factor 7 deficiency include bleeding into the joints, joint swelling, joint pain, bleeding gums, nosebleeds, and easy bruising. Women may experience heavy menstrual periods.

There is no cure for factor 7 deficiency. Treatment for factor 10 deficiency may include fresh frozen plasma, factor 7 concentrate, and vitamin K. Patients should avoid aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, and other medications that can promote bleeding.
