Factor 5 Deficiency Underlying Cause

Normal blood clotting requires the complex interaction of about 20 different blood proteins. Many of these proteins are manufactured in the liver and are regulated by the activities of enzymes and other cofactors.

Factor 5 deficiency is an inherited illness. Low levels of this clotting factor result in prolonged blood clotting. Factor 5 deficiency can occur in women as well as men.
