Esophageal Varices Home Care: Liver Diet
A person with esophageal varices may benefit from a liver disease diet:
  • Eat a high carbohydrate diet
  • Eat a low protein diet:
    • Restrict protein to 1 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight per day.
  • Eat a low salt diet:
    • Restrict salt to no more than 2 grams per day.
  • Take vitamin B supplements:
  • Take vitamin E supplements.
  • Take vitamin D supplements.
  • Avoid foods that contain vitamin A:
    • Egg yolks
    • Dairy products
    • Fish oil
