What is erythema nodosum?
A person with erythema nodosum has inflammation of the skin that results in tender, red bumps under the skin surface. The rash is commonly located on the shins, thighs and forearms. The cause for erythema nodosum is unclear, but it seems to be triggered by an illness or medication. Erythema nodosum occurs most commonly in young adults, and usually resolves within 6 weeks.
