What is erysipelas?
A person with erysipelas has a serious skin infection caused by bacteria. Erysipelas is a type of cellulitis that occurs most commonly on the face or neck. Erysipelas can spread rapidly. Common symptoms include redness, swelling and pain. With early treatment, most cases resolve within 10 days.
