A person with an ependymoma has abnormal cells in or around the brain that multiply out of control. Over time, these cells can form tumors and spread to other parts of the brain or spinal cord.

Ependymoma is a type of brain cancer, called a glioma. Ependymomas account for about 2 percent of brain tumors.
