Entamoeba Histolytica Infection Underlying Cause
The cause of extraintestinal amebiasis is the parasite, Entamoeba histolytica.
The parasite is present in the feces of infected people. Infection occurs by ingesting cysts in contaminated food or water, or by person-to-person contact.
