What is encopresis?
A child with encopresis has regular, accidental bowel movements that soil the clothes. These accidental bowel movements are abnormal in children over 4 years old. The most common cause of encopresis is severe constipation. About 1 out of 100 children over the age of 4 have encopresis.

What are the symptoms of encopresis?
Symptoms of encopresis may include soiling the clothes, constipation, abdominal pain, anal pain, and pain during bowel movements.

How does the doctor treat encopresis?
Treatment for encopresis includes toilet training, encourage increased fluid intake, and medications.
