Ear injuries may involve the ear drum or the outer ear. Symptoms of an outer ear injury may include ear bleeding, ear pain, ear redness, ear swelling and ear bruising. Symptoms of an eardrum injury may include ear pain, bleeding from the ear, ear canal swelling, drainage from the ear, sudden hearing loss, and vomiting.

How does the doctor treat an ear injury?
Treatment for an ear injury depends on the severity of the injury. Swelling of the outer ear requires treatment by a doctor, in order to avoid permanent deformity of the outer ear. Ear injury treatment may include wound care, cold compresses, ear compression dressing, antibiotic eardrops, tetanus vaccine, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications for pain. Severe injuries may require surgery.
