A person with dry eyes does not produce enough tears to keep the surface of the eye moist. Dry eyes is caused by decreased tear production, or increased evaporation of tears. Tear production normally decreases with age. Images

About one in five people in the US suffer from dry eyes. Most cases of dry eyes respond well to regular use of artificial tears.
