A person with dependent personality disorder depends on guidance and direction provided by a forceful, or dominant, person. The dominant individual has too much control over the behavior of the person with dependent personality disorder. This situation can set the stage for an abusive relationship.

Personality disorders are abnormal emotional behaviors. These patterns of behavior can interfere with a person's ability to function normally.
