Deficiency of Intrinsic Factor Diet

A person with pernicious anemia may benefit from a diet rich in vitamin B12, thiamine and folic acid.

Food sources for vitamin B12:

  • Animal products only
  • Vitamin supplements

Food sources for thiamine:
  • Dried peas, beans, legumes, peanuts, and peanut butter
  • Green leafy vegetables
  • Nuts
  • Protein-rich foods (meats)
  • Wheat germ, whole grain bread and cereal.

Food sources for folic acid
  • Legumes, nuts, whole grain cereals, yeast
  • Green vegetables, broccoli, asparagus, okra, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts.
  • Oranges, carrots, and cantaloupe.
