Cushing's Syndrome Definition

A person with Cushing's syndrome has symptoms caused by excess cortisol, a hormone made by the adrenal glands. Cortisol regulates metabolism.

The most common cause of Cushing's syndrome is treatment with steroids, such as prednisone, Medrol, dexamethasone, and hydrocortisone. These medications have the same effects of cortisol.
