Calluses and corns are caused by persistent pressure, or friction, that is applied the surface of the skin.

Causes of persistent pressure or friction include:
  • Shoes that fit poorly
  • Wearing shoes without socks
  • Thin socks
  • High heels
  • Repetitive activities that involve the feet:
    • Sports
    • Occupation
    • Running
