Some vaccinations can help reduce the risk for pneumonia in those with COPD.

Most doctors recommend:

Annual influenza vaccine

Influenza vaccinations are given at the beginning of each flu season.
Although the vaccine does not guarantee protection from infection, the risk of infection is reduced greatly.
Influenza season is from November through April in the US.

Pneumonia vaccine:

This is a vaccine that protects against common bacteria called pneumococcus.
These are the same bacteria that cause pneumonia, ear infections, and meningitis.
Pneumovax is normally given once every six years.
