What to expect with colorectal
cancer:
- With treatment, about 85% of patients with small tumors will live more than five years.
- People with stage 0 and stage I disease have a 90 to 95% chance of being disease-free 5 years after treatment.
- Survival at five years drops to 30% if there is spread outside of the intestines.
- The life expectancy of those with stage IV disease is about 18 months.
- About 10 to 15% of patients undergoing surgery will require a colectomy and a temporary or permanent colostomy.
