Colic Treatment
Treatment for infantile colic does not usually include the use of medications unless there is evidence for reflux esophagitis. Some recommendations include a trial of simethicone (Mylicon). Others may try switching to a soy-based formula and avoiding large feedings.
Treatment options for infantile colic may include:
- Simethicone (Mylicon)
- For excessive gas
- Avoid nonprescription cold medications
- Avoid cow's milk
- Provide soy-based formula
- Keep the infant comfortable:
- Feed a hungry baby
- Avoid over-feeding
- Change wet diapers
- Do not allow the baby to become cold
- Provide soothing music
- Cuddle and rock the baby
- Try a pacifier
