What is prostatitis?
A male with prostatitis has inflammation of the prostate gland, usually due to an infection. There are three types of prostatitis: acute infectious prostatitis, chronic infectious prostatitis, and noninfectious prostatitis. 
What are the symptoms of prostatitis?
The most common symptoms of prostatitis include pain during urination, increased urinary frequency, difficulty urinating and a constant urge to urinate. Prostatitis may also cause pain in the scrotum, testicles, lower abdomen, lower back, or anus. Additional symptoms of prostatitis may include blood in the urine, fever, and painful ejaculation.
How does the doctor treat prostatitis?
Treatment for prostatitis includes antibiotics, stool softeners, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications for pain. Rarely, surgery may be required to treat prostatitis.
