A person with chronic fatigue syndrome has severe fatigue that lasts for longer than one year. The diagnosis is made only after complete investigation reveals no other cause for the symptoms. Chronic fatigue syndrome is most common in young adults. About 200,000 people in the US suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome. The cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is unknown.

There is no cure for chronic fatigue syndrome: symptoms usually resolve over months to years. Treatment for chronic fatigue syndrome may include exercise, a balanced diet, stress reduction, antidepressant medications, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications.
